Shou sugi ban (charred cedar board) refers to a Japanese technique for preserving timber through controlled scorching of its surface. This burns away softer fibres and seals the surface, transforming the grain into a raised, textural relief.

The piece is cut to expose the clean, natural edge of the timber and finished with a simple oil finish.
